Attorney John E. Fitzgerald was born and raised near Detroit, Michigan. He is a 1983 graduate of East Lansing High School in East Lansing, Michigan. He moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1983 to attend Wake Forest University. Mr. Fitzgerald received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest in 1987, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with honors, majoring in History and minoring in French. During the fall semester of his senior year, Mr. Fitzgerald studied in Dijon, France, where he became fluent in French. Mr. Fitzgerald received his Juris Doctor degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 1990 and was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar later that same year. Mr. Fitzgerald began practicing law on March 1, 1993, as an associate for well-known Winston- Salem attorney Larry L. Eubanks. Mr. Fitzgerald quickly excelled at representing Mr. Eubanks' large number of criminal, traffic, and driver's license clients. Mr. Fitzgerald took over the busy law practice on January 1, 2000, when Mr. Eubanks retired. Since 1993, Mr. Fitzgerald has handled literally thousands of criminal, traffic, DWI, and driver's license matters. Mr. Fitzgerald's chief legal assistant, Mrs. Elizabeth Birnbaumer, has worked with him since November 1, 2000. Mrs. Birnbaumer was formerly employed as a courtroom clerk in Forsyth County District Court and is extremely knowledgeable about the types of cases Mr. Fitzgerald handles and the issues his clients encounter. Mr. Fitzgerald decided at the beginning of his career to practice only criminal, traffic, DWI, and driver's license law instead of being a general practitioner so he could skillfully represent his clients and have sufficient time to devote to their cases. That strategy worked. Mr. Fitzgerald is fortunate to have a large group of loyal clients who often return with new cases of their own and who regularly refer friends and family members to him. Mr. Fitzgerald is the only attorney in his firm, so your case will never be passed on to an inexperienced associate. Mr. Fitzgerald's philosophy has always been to treat every client equally and with the respect they deserve, no matter how large or small their case or fee may be. Mr. Fitzgerald prides himself on giving exemplary customer service, whether it be in the courtroom, over the telephone, or in his office. Despite his busy daily court schedule, Mr. Fitzgerald strives to return every telephone call on the same business day it is received. Mr. Fitzgerald always sends a detailed letter to his clients upon completion of their case explaining what happened in court so they will have it for future reference. Mr. Fitzgerald realizes that you may be scared or embarrassed to call a lawyer if you have been charged with a criminal or traffic offense. He and his staff are courteous, knowledgeable, professional, and non-judgmental. They will keep your identity and the details of your case completely confidential.
