Modoc County Detention Center is located in Alturas, California among the harsh beauty of the Modoc Plateau featuring lava flows, cinder cones, and pine forests. The geology of this site makes it a vastly different world from that of Reno, Nevada only 140 miles to the South. Modoc County Jail has a 48 bed capacity that can house both male and female adults, but remains 55% to 65% full on average.
